Presented is a 1996 New York Mets team-signed baseball, with 34 autographs. The Official National League Ball (MacPhail) was a baseball especially created for the first National League game (and series) played outside of the United States and Canada. The three-game series began on August 16, 1996, and the games were played in Monterrey, Mexico, between the New York Mets and the San Diego Padres. The signed team ball has specially created red and green stitches, the red and green representing the colors of Mexico. In the first game of the series, the Padres' starting pitcher was the great Fernando Valenzuela, a native of Mexico, and a left-handed screwball specialist who had reached cult-like stardom while pitching most of his career for the Los Angeles Dodgers. With Mexican fans enthralled with Valenzuela, on the back end of his career and relying on guile rather than speed, the Padres won 15-10, with Valenzuela getting the win. Autos: Dallas Green, Carlos Baerga, Jeff Kent, John Franco, Edgardo Alfonzo, Frank Howard, Lee Mazzilli, and many more. The autographs are signed in blue ballpoint. A few of the signatures are not completely legible. The ball has a Steiner hologram, and the offering comes with a Steiner COA.
