Presented is a 1909 vintage color lithograph of the National League Champion Pittsburg Base Ball Club. (In 1909, the city of Pittsburg was sometimes still spelled without an "H" at the end of the word, and baseball was often spelled as two words.) The offered lithograph was published by the Pittsburg Press. The photos are all by Carl Horner and most are the same images used on the T206 cards, including Honus Wagner. The '09 Pirates had a regular season record of 110-42-2 to win the National League Pennant, as Hall of Famer Honus Wagner led the Pirate hitters with a .339 batting average. In a World Series match-up billed as a battle between the Detroit Tigers' player-manager Ty Cobb and the Pirates' Honus Wagner, the great Pittsburgh shortstop prevailed as he outshone Cobb to lead the Pirates to a World Series win, 4-3 in games. The lithograph measures 12.25x19.5", matted and framed to 17.5x24.5". The machine printing on the lithograph reads, "Pennant Winners/Pittsburg B.B. CLUB/NATIONAL LEAGUE/1909." The color part of the lithograph involves its blue and orange background. The photos are in black & white. The 23 photos include 21 players, the full squad, Club President Barney Dreyfuss, and Secretary William Locke. Player pictures include Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, Vic Willis (pitcher), and Fred Clarke (player-manager as an outfielder). Plus, stars Tommy Leash (center field), Howie Camnitz (pitcher), and George Gibson (catcher). The colors are bright, and the photos are sharp, but the lithograph does have much creasing and some light staining and repaired tears. Despite some imperfections, it's still a beautiful piece.
