Presented is a 1909 quaint, vintage Pittsburg Baseball Club Sporting Life framed cover display. The display includes small photos of 23 Pittsburg Pirate players, including Honus Wagner, an Inaugural Hall of Famer, and one of the best players in baseball history. The 1909 Pittsburg team was a National League powerhouse. The Pirates had a 110-42-2 record and won the World Series in seven games against the Detroit Tigers. Wagner led the Pirate hitters with a .339 batting average and 100 RBIs, and his photo is shown just below the Pittsburg club icon. Two other eventual Hall of Famers are depicted on the photograph: Manager/Outfielder Fred Clarke and pitcher Vic Willis. Clarke batted .286 that season, and Willis was 22-11 with a 2.24 ERA. In addition to the aforementioned players, 20 additional Pirates are pictured: Pitchers Lever, Camnitz, Maddox, Phillipi, Adams, Leifield, Frock, Powell, Brandon, and Moore; Catchers Gibson, O'Connor and Simon; Infielders Miller, Abbittichio, Bryne, and Abstein; Outfielders Leach, Wilson, and Hyatt. The cover reads, in part, "SPORTING LIFE/Base Ball, Trap Shooting and General Sports/Philadelphia; October 23, 1909/Price 5 Cents." The visible part of the cover page measures 10x14.25", matted and framed to 15x19". The photo shows some expected darkening and foxing because of the passage of nearly 115 years. Except for the aforementioned minor defect, the photo is in excellent condition. It's a great memento for one of Pittsburgh Pirates World Series champions.
