A stock certificate signed by Al (A.J.) Reach, one of the first stars of professional baseball. The certificate, from March 24th, 1885, was for 100 shares in the Saint Paul and Duluth Railroad Company. The 139-year-old certificate is in very good to fine condition with intersecting folds and scattered light toning. Reach began his baseball career in the 1860s and helped lead the Philadelphia Athletics to the first National Association pennant in 1871. Upon his retirement, he became a sporting goods manufacturer who later sold his company to Spalding. The Reach trade name was featured on American League baseballs until 1976. This item is exceedingly rare as Reach passed away in 1928 at the age of 87.
