Original large-format (10x8") glass plate negative capturing fourteen members of the 1925 Baltimore Black Sox, including Hall of Famers Jud Wilson (standing, second from the right) and player/manager Pete Hill (standing, wearing the sweater). Original Negro League photos from this era are scarce and negatives, especially of this size, are rarer still. To the best of our knowledge, this image represents the only team photo of the 1925 Baltimore Black Sox, as we have never seen another pose. While it is impossible to say how many original Type I photos of this image have survived, there is only one original negative, which makes it a true "one of one." The Baltimore Black Sox were members of the Eastern Colored League in 1926 and finished the season with a third-place record of 33-31-2. The negative displays a large area of emulsion loss along the right border, which affects the player standing on the far end, and a smaller area along the bottom border. Aside from those two flaws, the negative remains in Excellent condition.
