Enormous collection of 3,000+ vintage photographs and film negatives originating from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archives. Over the past several years Lelands has been proud to offer thousands of significant baseball and sports images culled from the Brown Brothers Photo Archives. However, the Brown Brothers Archives also features tens of thousands of non-sports photos, a small grouping of which (comparatively speaking) is offered here. The Brown Brothers Archives were arranged by subject matter and the offered grouping consists mainly of specific photographic themes. The one sport represented here is Polo (on horses). Almost all the photos in the collection date from the early 1900s to the 1950s. Many of the photos and negatives offered here are original, but also included are duplicate negatives, as well as Type II, III, and IV photos. Sizes range from approximately 2x4" to 8x10", but the majority of photos measure 5x7" or larger. The photos, which have been in storage for decades, vary in condition, with nearly all having minor flaws, including, but not limited to, curling, minor edge tears, and creases. Approximately 20% of the pieces in this collection are film negatives, but photographs of prints, and actual prints are also included (approximately 35%; mainly the Biblical and Napoleon photos). The general subjects represented in this collection are as follows: 1) School/Classroom/Play Ground (300+); 2) Babies/Children (350+); 3) Kitchen/House Interiors (300+; including advertising stills); 4) Polo (175+); 5) Houses/Buildings/Residences (350+); 6) Biblical (600+; includes book plates and publication pages. Most are representations of Old and New Testament scenes by artists such as Gustav Staal); 7) Bathrooms (200+; including advertising stills from Kohler and American Standard); 8) Winter (400+; features many European images of snow, sleigh riding, military in the snow, etc., sports such as skiing, hockey, etc., ice industry/ice cutting, early New York City snow scenes, including the Flat Iron building, children playing in the snow, ice climbing, horses, carnivals, and the Polar Bear Club. 9) Cattle (200+; includes cattle and cattle ranching); 10) Napoleon (50+; consists of photos of prints, illustrations, artworks, etc., plus actual prints). 11) Miscellaneous (100+; includes foreign locales, factory scenes, and cathedrals). Please Note: The size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
