Displayed is a 1947 Dick Culler Boston Braves short print collection of six (6) Tip Top Bread cards. Culler played for eight Major League seasons: Philadelphia Athletics (1936), Chicago White Sox (1943), Boston Braves (1944-47), Chicago Cubs (1948), New York Giants (1949). He had a .248 lifetime batting average. In 1947, when these Tip-Top cards were issued as premiums, Culler batted .248 in 77 games for the Braves. The offered premium player card measures 2.25x3". The front reads, "Dick Culler/Shortstop, Boston, N.L." The back has advertising copy, and it reads, in part, "After school make a 'home run' for TIP-TOP." There is also a notice to collectors on the back: "There are 15 photos of your favorite players in this club group. Should you get duplicate photos (two or more of the same player) trade cards until you have the complete set." The cards exhibit varying degrees of toning. There is also some light corner scuffing, and a few tiny stains. Considering photo cards were issued not long after World War II, they are in nice condition, and they evoke memories of the post-World War II days of the Red Sox in what was still common in 1947, a two-team Major League city. Overall FR to GD condition.
