Displayed is a circa 1930s Mills Novelty Co. revamp for Superior Confections (Superior Mints) vending slot machine. The slot machine measures 16x16" at the base, with a height of approx. 24.5". A green playing field is depicted, and above the playing field is "SUPERIOR MINTS" in black printing over an image of a white fence. A complete nine-man fielding team in red uniforms is shown, and for the batting team in orange uniforms, a batter running to first and a runner from third base heading home, The slot machine has baseball tin reel strips. These are like the reel strips on a traditional slot machine, with the major difference being that the offered baseball slot machine, instead of using images of fruit (lemons, oranges, cherries, etc.) as with a typical slot machine, uses baseball images (baseballs, gloves, and mitts, etc.). A typed sign above the "windows" to the reels states that "chips" are earned for various rewards, and these chips "...are part of the equipment of the machine and remain our property and must not be carried away." There are numerous handles, such as four handles to turn to indicate runs for each team, the inning, and the outs. The slot machine's oak cabinet and the item's metal components show wear, with some scratch marks, discoloration, and small chipping. There is a 10" long slot handle. The slot machine has a back door. Some parts of the machine are locked, and there is no key. On top is a coin entry (5 cents). Below the reel strips are two paper sheets affixed to the machine and these sheets designate the number of chips (not included) to be awarded for various achievements, such as a home run to center field (12 chips) or a base hit to right field (4 chips). These sheets show some slight stains and paper loss. Overall, no representation is made of a particular part of the machine being in working order. Overall, the slot machine shows great use and various imperfections, such as scratch marks, small areas of rust, etc. exist. Even so, the machine presents well as a fine vintage example of a baseball slot machine. The offered baseball slot machine weighs 101 lbs. Thus, this is not a standard shipped item, and it will require third-party shipping or pick-up arrangements must be made.
