Displayed is a circa 1965 Boston Patriots heavy wool jacket. The coat was worn either by a member of the Boston Patriots or by an usher in the mid-1960s. The Patriots were one of the original eight teams in the American Football League (AFL), which began play in 1960. When the AFL and the NFL merged in 1970, the Patriots joined the NFL. In 1971, the franchise became known as the New England Patriots. In '65, the Patriots were coached by Mike Holovak, and the team had a 4-8-2 record in the AFL East Division. While future Hall of Fame New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is often regarded as the pro football G.O.A.T., in '65 the Patriots were quarterbacked by Babe Parilli, and the team's leading scorer was wide receiver/kicker Gino Cappelletti, who had 132 points. The jacket is primarily red, with many added touches of white and blue. The offered wool jacket has the famous red, white, and blue "Pat Patriot" team logo sewn on the left breast. There is a Wilson manufacturer's tag in the right pocket. No size tag is on the jacket, but the jacket seems to be about a large or extra-large size. A white number "8" is sewn on the right sleeve. Five blue metal snap buttons run down the front. There is a small tear in the inner lining in the neck. The jacket shows heavy wear, but there are no outstanding issues.
