Presented is a 1930s Jim Bottomley Original News Service World Wide Photos Type I photo of the St. Louis Cardinals' slugging first baseman. Bottomley, from Illinois, was discovered by the Cardinals when an Illinois policeman, a friend of Branch Rickey, the Cardinals' chief executive, saw Bottomly playing semi-professional baseball and notified Rickey, who sent a scout to see Bottomly and the Cards eventually signed him. Bottomley's nickname was "Sunny Jim," because of his friendly personality. Bottomley played 16 Major League seasons: St. Louis Cardinals (1922-32), Cincinnati Reds (1933-35), St. Louis Browns (1936-37). He batted .310 lifetime, with 218 home runs. His best season was in 1928, when he hit .325, and led the National League in triples (20), home runs (31), RBIs (136), and total bases (362). Bottomley was a part of four Cardinals Pennant Winners and two World Champion teams. After his playing career, Bottomley became a minor league manager, a scout, and a broadcaster. The offered photo measures 6x8.1". It depicts Bottomley in his home white Cardinals' uniform. The photo comes with a PSA/DNA, Photograph Certification 1P15898, that Certifies the photo as Type I.
