Jack Lambert, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, in 2004 was named by the Fox show, The Sports Net, as "the toughest football player of all time." Offered, from Lambert's personal collection, is a Jack Lambert, Pittsburgh Steelers' pregame warmup jacket. Lambert, the 1974 NFL Rookie of the Year, played 11 seasons in the NFL (1974-84), all with the Pittsburgh Steelers. At 6'2" and 204 lbs., although he was often listed at 220 lbs., Lambert was considered by many commentators as too light to play middle linebacker in the NFL. However, Pittsburgh employed a Tampa Two defense, in which the two safeties played a deep zone and Lambert's job was usually to drop back into the middle to cover the area in front of the safeties. A high school quarterback, Lambert had the speed and quickness to drop into the middle, and he became the 1975 NFL Player of the Year and a 9-time Pro Bowl selection. The great Lambert was a key linebacker on four Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champions. The offered jacket was worn by Lambert during practices and during pregame warmups. The black Nylon jacket has gold and white trim. On the left lower front section is a "Pro Knitwear" manufacturer's tag that shows the size as "X-Large." On the top back, Lambert used a gold marker, writing in big and bold script, to inscribe and sign the jacket by writing, "Jack Lambert HOF '90." The jacket shows light wear, and it is in EXCELLENT condition.
