Presented is a circa 1928 Ty Cobb Type I original photograph, with Hall of Famer Tris Speaker and three other Philadelphia Athletics teammates. Second to the left in the offered photo is Ty Cobb. A Hall of Fame center fielder, "the Georgia Peach" at one time held the Major League records for hits (4,189) and stolen bases (897). He still has the highest Major League lifetime batting average (.366) in history. Cobb played from 1905-28 in the Major Leagues, all with the Detroit Tigers, except for his final two seasons, playing for Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack on the Philadelphia Athletics. Cobb won 12 AL batting titles, and he was the 1911 AL MVP when he batted .419. In his final playing season Cobb was 41 years old, yet he still managed to bat 323. Tris Speaker was also a Hall of Fame center fielder. In the photo, he is in the center, to Cobb's left. Speaker played the bulk of his career with Boston and Cleveland in the American League. His final two seasons were with the Washington Senators in '27 and the Philadelphia Athletics, with his friend, Ty Cobb, in '28. For his career, Speaker batted .345. In that '28 season, at 40 years old, he batted .267. The 8x10" black & white original photo has staple holes in each corner, a few very small stains, and some very small wrinkles, and a few tiny areas of paper loss. The abovementioned minor defects are around the periphery of the photo and the heart of the picture is in good to very good condition. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as Type I AUTHENTIC.
