Displayed is 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers multi-signed ball signed by 19 members of the National League Champions. Many baseball pundits and a number of Brooklyn Dodgers players consider the 1953 team to be Brooklyn's finest ever. Even though most of the key '53 Dodgers were also on the '55 team, the '53 team had an amazing record of 105-49-1 in the regular season. Both teams had five Hall of Famers in their regular lineup, but on the '53 team these players were two years younger and had tremendous seasons: Roy Campanella hit .312, with 41 homers and 142 RBIs; Gil Hodges hit .302, with 31 round-trippers and 122 RBIs; Jackie Robinson batted .329, with 12 home runs and 95 RBIs; Duke Snider hit .336, with 42 home runs and 126 RBIs; Pee Wee Reese batted .271, with 13 homers and 61 RBIs. The '53 team was immortalized in Roger Kahn's iconic book The Boys of Summer. Included with the signed team ball is a JSA LOA which shows that none of the 19 signatures on the Official National League Ball (Giles) are clubhouse. Hall of Famers: J. Robinson/R. Campanella/Gil Hodges. Key signatures: C. Dressen (manager)/J. Gilliam/B. Cox. Plus J. Black/C. Labine/Carl Erskine/Ralph Branca/P. Roe/G. Shuba/Johnny Podres. Dressen signed on the sweet spot. Above Dressen's signature, written by an unknown hand in blue ink is 1953. The other signatures are on all panels, and the autographs were all written in blue or purple ballpoint pen. The ball shows some very slight darkening. The signatures exhibit very slight fading, but all signatures are legible, and the ball is in fine condition. This multi-signed ball makes a fine nostalgia piece for the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers Boys of Summer.
