Displayed is the 1977 NFL Pro Bowl Award presented to Hall of Fame Middle Linebacker Jack Lambert. Known as Dracula in Cleats, Lambert played 11 seasons in the NFL, all for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Initially listed at 6'4" and 220 lbs. when he broke in with the Steelers in '74, Lambert really only weighed 206 lbs., and he was thought to be too small to play middle linebacker. But the Steelers were using a Tampa Two defense in which requires the middle linebacker to drop back to cover the short middle, and Lambert's speed and quickness made him quickly adapt to the position. Lambert lost his front four upper teeth while playing basketball in high school, and he wore a bridge in public, but in games, his menacing toothless look became his trademark. Lambert was the '74 Rookie of the Year and the '76 Player of the Year. He was a 6-time First Team All-Pro. He was a key player on four Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champions. In his career, he had 1,479 total tackles, with 28 interceptions for 243 yards and 17 fumble recoveries. Sack records for the time he played are incomplete, but some unofficial sources credit him with 23.5 sacks. In the 1976 season, Lambert started 10 of the 11 games in which he played. He had one interception that he returned for five yards. The Steelers went 90-5-0 in the regular season and were defeated in the AFC Central Division playoffs by the Denver Broncos 43-21. The Jack Lambert Trophy is given annually by the Touchdown Club of Columbus, Ohio, to the best collegiate linebacker in the country. The offered trophy comes directly from Jack Lambert. The wood base is four-sided, with a back lateral measurement of 12" which narrows to 4.25" at the front. The sides measure 9.5". The square 3.6" crystal sits on top of a 5" wooden square. The crystal shows the NFL logo. This wooden square has a 4.5" wide, at bottom, plaque which reads, AFC - NFC PRO BOWL GAME 1977 JACK LAMBERT. The wood base has 15 enamel team helmet logos, representing each of the 15 AFC teams at the time, all around the bottom. The crystal on top has etched NFL logo. EX condition and also signed by Jack Lambert on the base, using a gold marker to sign and inscribe, Jack Lambert HOF '90. The award weighs 85.75 ounces, and it is in excellent condition. The offering makes an outstanding memento not only for Lambert but for the 4-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers dynasty for which he starred.
