Like Rome, Yankee Stadium wasn't built in a day. In fact, the original Yankee Stadium did not take its final form until 1937, when the right field wooden bleachers were replaced with concrete and the multi-tier extension was added. This archive of vintage photos, nearly all of which originate from the office archives of the respective building companies, chronicles the rise of what would quickly be known as "The House That Ruth Built." Nine photos date to the 1921-23 original building stage, including shots of the grounds prior to the start of the project, as well as various stages of construction. Most of the photos bear the name of the White Construction Company in the lower right and feature the credit stamp of photographer Howard Cox on the reverse. In 1928, the left field extension was erected and nine photos capture the renovation, all of which bear the credit stamp of the L. M. Neckermann Co. on the reverse. The remaining sixteen photos chronicle the completion of the right-field extension in 1936 and 1937, fifteen of which bear the credit stamp of Leopold Neckermann, Inc., the company that handled the renovation. One of the 1930s photos is a panoramic image of the outfield created by attaching two photos together. The vast majority of the photos measure 10x8 inches (the remainder are slightly smaller) and are backed with linen that bear date stamps. Condition ranges from Good to Excellent, averaging Very Good.
