Presented is a circa 1979 Walter Alston Major League Baseball Lifetime Pass. These are only given to very special people in baseball - Walt Alston was one of them. Alston, known as Smokey, was a long-time minor league player, player-manager, and non-playing manager who skippered the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers to seven National League pennants and four World Championships, including the Brooklyn Dodgers' only World Championship (1955). Alston was a power-hitting first baseman and third baseman who played only one Major League game, in 1936, striking out in his only at bat. He was an outwardly calm, taciturn manager who signed 23 consecutive one-year contracts with the Dodgers, managing the team from 1954-76. The gold-colored, metal pass measures 21.x3.5". It reads, American/National/Major Leagues of Professional Baseball present this LIFETIME PASS to WALTER ALSTON in appreciation of long and meritorious service/Lee MacPhail Jr. President/Charle S. Feeney President. There are also facsimile Lee MacPhail Jr. and Charles S. Feeney autographs. The pass to all games is in NRMT condition. and it comes with a letter from the Alston family signed by his granddaughter.
