Displayed is a vintage 1960s autograph and inscription from one of America's foremost film actors, the remarkable Paul Newman. Born in Shaker Heights, a Cleveland suburb, in 1925, Newman began acting in a stage production at the Cleveland Playhouse when he was only 10 years old. He was a United States Navy combat veteran in World War II and made his Broadway debut in William Inge's Picnic. Newman's big movie break came in the 1956 film Somebody Up There Likes Me. He showed considerable athletic ability in portraying the eventual Middleweight World Champion, Rocky Graziano. Newman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Color of Money (1986), with Tom Cruise. This film was a sequel to Newman's great performance as Fast Eddie Felson, with George C. Scott and Jackie Gleason, in The Hustler. Newman's Academy Award nominations occurred over five decades: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), The Hustler (1961), Hud (1963), Cool Hand Luke (1967), Absence of Malice (1981), The Verdict (1982), Nobody's Fool (1994), Road to Perdition (2007). Newman also starred in numerous memorable films, for example, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Sting (1973), Slap Shot (1977). Once again, Newman demonstrated his ability to play an athlete as his performance as Reggie Dunlap, an aging hockey player/coach was amazingly convincing. Newman was also a race car driver, winning four National Championships in Sports Car Club of America road racing. Newman neatly signed and inscribed an approx. 2.25x4" paper, a cut signature, using a blue ballpoint. The signature cut has been attached to an approx. 3.25x4.6" piece of card stock or light cardboard, and PAUL NEWMAN, made by a labeler by an unknown hand, is affixed below Newman's signature. There is a small amount of what appears to be glue or mucilage residue on the cut, above the signature. The offered autograph has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
