Displayed is a Grover Cleveland Alexander index card signed by the Hall of Fame right-hander. Alexander was one of the greatest pitchers in history. He was nicknamed both Old Pete, and The Great Alexander. He won 373 games in his career, with a lifetime ERA of 2.56. A National Leaguer, he pitched for three teams: Philadelphia Phillies (1911-17 & 1930), Chicago Cubs (1918-1926), St. Louis Cardinals (1926-29). He was a key pitcher in helping the St. Louis Cardinals become the 1926 World Champions. Alexander won three pitching Triple Crowns, was a 6-time NL win leader, a 6-time NL strikeout leader, and a 4-time NL ERA Champion. He was named after U.S. President Grover Cleveland, and he was portrayed in the movie The Winning Team, by Ronald Reagan. Thus, he has the unusual irony of being named in honor of one president and played in the movies by another. The Alexander autograph, signed in pencil as Grover C. Alexander, is on a 3x5" index card. Alexander writes in a neat, bold manner. The index card does show some fading and two approx. inch long pieces of tape are on the card, one on each side, but the tape does not intrude on the autograph. The signed card displays some darkening because of the passage of time. The card has been encapsulated and has a PSA/DNA Certified Auto Grade of MINT 9.
