Offered is the wedding album of Pete Rose and Karolyn Engelhardt, his first wife. Rose, the Major League's all-time hit king, with 4,256 hits, grew up in Cincinnati and spent the majority of his baseball years playing with and sometimes managing the Cincinnati Reds. This is the couple's personal wedding album, and it came from Karolyn Englehardt. The album measures 12.5x14", and it has 24 pages. There are 20 black & white matted photos, with each photo visible at a size of approx. 7.25x9.25". All of the photos are original and would be considered Type I. The cover depicts a generic bride and groom in a church, and the cover reads, Our Wedding. The first page is informational and was filled out in neatly written blue ballpoint by an unknown hand. This page shows the date as January 25, 1964, and the names of the bride and groom. It lists the church as St. William Catholic Church (in Cincinnati). A photo of the wedding, which shows only part of the seating area, shows the attendees to be about an average number for the time, perhaps numbering a hundred, perhaps more. Rose is well-dressed in black tie, and his new wife wears a traditional white wedding dress. A photo of the wedding reception depicts an apparently simple wedding reception, common to middle-class weddings of the time, with basic, wooden folding chairs. Rose was only 22 years old at the time, and his face and body depict a thinner athlete than he was in his later playing years. He played his first Major League season in 1963, and he won the National League Rookie of the Year Award. The album comes with an original invitation to the wedding, measuring approx. 4.3x5.7" and originating from the parents of Karolyn Engelhardt. The wedding invitation is in excellent condition. Two of the photos, perhaps taken by a different photographer than the other 18 photos, one apparently of the bride and her father and the other an exterior view of the church, show pronounced fading. The other photos, including one of the bride and bridegroom exiting a snazzy 1963 white Corvette, are in excellent condition. The album itself exhibits light wear and there is some cracking on the exterior spine of the album. Otherwise, the album is in nice condition. This is a one-of-a-kind item and once belonged to Pete Rose.
