"What Einstein was to physics, what Babe Ruth was to home runs, what Dorothy Post was to table manners, that's what Edward G. Robinson was to dying like a dirty rat," said Russell Baker of one of America's all-time great actors. Presented is a 1960s Edward G. Robinson signed and inscribed vintage photograph. Born Emanuel Goldenberg in Bucharest, Romania in 1893, Edward G. Robinson emigrated to New York City was he was ten years old. He became a stage and screen star, appearing in 30 Broadway plays and in more than 100 films. Only 5'5", Robinson never let his lack of height diminish the power in the characters he portrayed, many of them gangsters. "When Edward G. Robinson, who used to play gangster roles with extraordinary vividness, visited Chicago," wrote S.I. Hayakawa, "local hoodlums would telephone him at his hotel to pay their professional respects." Robinson won fame for the lead role in Little Caesar (1931), one of his most praised gangster roles. Although he never received an Oscar nomination, Robinson was one of film's greatest all-time stars. Just a few of his famous roles: House of Strangers, for which he won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor; Key Largo (1948), as Johnny Rocco, with Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, and Lionel Barrymore; Double Indemnity (1943, with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck). Robinson was posthumously awarded an Honorary Oscar in 1973. The offered photograph measures 5'x7". In some places on the photo margins, residue from glue or tape is evident. Using blue ink, Robinson neatly inscribed and signed, "To Bob Donnelly - warm regards. Edward G. Robinson." The photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
