Presented is a vintage 1960s autograph of John Carradine, a prolific character actor who had more than 350 film and television credits and was renowned for playing Count Dracula in a number of films. Carradine was born in New York City in 1906, and he wanted to act from an early age. He briefly was a set designer for Cecil B. DeMille, and later became part of DeMille's stock company as an actor. Carradine was also part of the regular company of actors that famed film director John Ford employed, and Carradine was in 14 John Ford films. Some of Carradine's most noteworthy roles were in John Ford films: The Grapes of Wrath, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and Stagecoach. Carradine earned the nickname of "The Voice" for his deep and melodic voice. He was in many Westerns, and in numerous horror films, famously portraying Count Dracula: House of Frankenstein (1941), House of Dracula (1945), Billy the Kid Versus Count Dracula (1966), Nocturna: Granddaughter of Dracula (1979). Carradine had four sons and eight grandchildren who are or were in acting, with Keith Carradine being the most famous. John Carradine passed away in 1988, and he has been honored with a star on the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame. The autograph is on a piece of paper or card stock measuring approx. 2.25x4". Carradine signed and inscribed "Best wishes John Carradine" in blue ink. The cut autograph has been encapsulated and has a PSA/DNA auto grade as NM-MT 8.
