Presented is a Honus Wagner cut signature on a Perez Steele Hall of Fame postcard. Wagner was an Inaugural Hall of Famer. Often mistakenly considered as almost exclusively a shortstop, he was wonderfully versatile, and he played many games at first base, third base, and in the outfield. As Hall of Fame manager John McGraw said, "He was the nearest thing to a perfect player no matter where his manager chose to play him." Honus played 21 Major League seasons: Louisville Colonels (1897-99), Pittsburgh Pirates (1900-17). He had 3,420 hits, with a career batting average of .328, and he was an 8-time NL batting champion. Wagner had great off-field qualities as well. As author Bill James said, "He was a gentle, kind man... supportive of rookies, patient with fans, careful of the example he set for youth... a man with no enemies who never forgot his friends. He was the most beloved man in baseball until Babe Ruth." The Perez Steele postcards' color images are an enduring hit with fans and collectors, and the Wagner image on this postcard has details on Wagner's face that make the image practically seem alive. The postcard measures approx. 3.5x5.5". The auto attached to the postcard is a cut Wagner signature, in pencil, probably from some kind of sports scorecard or booklet. Wagner's signature is neat and clearly written. The reverse side of the postcard reads, in part, Perez STEELE GALLERIES, and FIRST SERIES SET: No. 00345/10,000/CARD 5. The postcard has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA CERTIFIED as AUTHENTIC AUTO. It's a beautiful postcard, with the attached cut signature of one of baseball's greatest immortals.
