Displayed is a mid-1980s Carlton Fisk Chicago White Sox pregame worn red jersey. The knit jersey was worn by the Hall of Famer catcher prior to games for warmups and batting practice. Fisk played for 24 years in the Major Leagues, still the record for a catcher: Boston Red Sox (1969, 1971-80), Chicago White Sox (1981-93). At his retirement, he held the Major League all-time record for home runs by a catcher (376), later broken by Mike Piazza. Fisk was an 11-time All-Star, the AL Rookie of the Year in 1972, a 3-time Silver Slugger winner, and the recipient of a Gold Glove. All the lettering and numbering is sewn on. He was a great fan favorite in Boston, Chicago, and throughout the baseball world for his work ethic and all-out, hard-nosed play. He is best remembered for his 12th-inning game-winning home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds at Fenway Park. In one of the best World Series games ever played, Fisk seemed to be willing the ball to stay fair by waving his arms, as his blast down the left field line was in danger of going foul. Across the chest of the short-sleeved jersey is SOX in white letters with blue trim. The collar has a Roman Sport manufacturer's tag showing size L. The back has 72, in white numerals. Fisk signed the 7 of the 72 in black, fine tip marker - in large, neat script. The jersey is in fine condition yet shows very nice use.
