Displayed is a rare Bastian Brothers 1938 Baseball All-Star Game press pinback for MLB's sixth All-Star Game, held at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. The National League won the game, 4-1, as the Reds' Johnny Vander Meer got the win in relief. The New York Yankees' Lefty Gomez took the loss. National League RBIs were by the St. Louis Cardinals' Ducky Medwick, the Cincinnati Reds' own Ernie Lombardi, and by the Brooklyn Dodgers' Leo Durocher, on a bunt. Durocher's bunt resulted in two errors on the play, and the National League actually scored two runs on the play. Red Sox shortstop Joe Cronin had the only National League RBI. The pin is 1.5" in diameter, and the front reads, PRESS ALL STAR GAME CROSLEY FIELD Cincinnati - 1938. The front is MINT. The paper on back has some wear. This was the first All Star Game press pin ever produced, and it is also the rarest. Produced by the famous Bastian Brothers, the pin still has the original paper insert on the back, with the insert reading, BASTIAN BROS. CO. Ribbon, Metal and Celluloid Novelties/Local no.11/Lithographers of America/Rochester, N.Y. Union Label. The press pin has been encapsulated and PSA graded VG 3.
