One of the enduring tragedies in American sports history is the life and death of Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman, who left his NFL career to enlist in the US Army in the wake of the September 11 attacks, and was killed in action in April of 2004 in Afghanistan. As part of Salute to Service Week at his Arizona State University alma mater, the Sun Devils wore special PT-42 uniforms on October 29, 2015, at home against Oregon. The uniforms throw back to the 1996 look that Tillman and his teammates took to the Rose Bowl after an undefeated regular season. Adidas recreated the Arizona State font on the chest and placed a PT-42 badge on the collar. Adidas also tweaked the Sparky logo and the helmet to get more period-specific. Every jersey had Tillman’s name on the back. The jersey has beautiful use, including many hit marks. It also has the rare "Scholar-Baller" patch on the front for honor roll athletes. The jersey was worn by lineman Stephon McCray. The fact that it has the "Tillman" nameplate makes it a great piece.
