New York Yankees home jersey worn by third base coach Dick Howser during the 1970 season. The white pinstripe flannel jersey features the club's "NY" logo on the front and the number 34 on the reverse, each applied in navy felt. The name "Howser" is chain-stitched in blue upon a white strip tag in the collar. The year, "70," is chain-stitched in blue on the left front tail. Located directly below the year is a wash tag and adjacent flag tag reading "Set 1 #8P 1970." The jersey is original as issued and displays moderate wear, including partial separation of the name tag in the collar and minor staining on the front tail. Howser was the New York Yankees' third base coach from 1969 to 1978, and after a brief stint as the head baseball coach at Florida State, he returned as Yankees manager for the 1980 season. Despite winning the division, the Yankees lost to the Kansas City Royals in the playoffs, which prompted team owner George Steinbrenner to fire Howser after just one season. The Yankees loss, however, was the Royals gain, as the club hired him during mid-season of 1981. In five full seasons with the Royals, Howser won three division titles and one World Championship before cancer took his life in 1987.
