New York Mets zipper-front warm-up jersey worn by pitcher Dwight Gooden during his historic 1984 rookie season. This jacket comes with the provenance of originating directly from Gooden's personal collection and he has attested to its rookie-season use by inscribing it "Doc Gooden 1984 R. O. Y. Season" in silver paint pen (grading 9/10) on the reverse. 

The blue long-sleeve warm-up jersey features the Mets team logo patch on the left breast (orange chenille on blue tackle twill). The name "Gooden" appears on the reverse, while his uniform number, "16" adorns the left sleeve. All letters and numerals are applied in orange-on-white embroidery.  A "Starter L" label appears in the collar. These jackets were normally worn by the Mets pitchers during pregame warmups, between innings when pitching, and when sitting on the bench during off days. The offered garment is original as issued and displays moderate wear. 

Dwight Gooden's rookie season was one for the books. Despite being just nineteen years old, he quickly established himself as one of the game's top pitchers. Starting 31 games, he finished the year with a 17-9 record, a 2.60 ERA, and a league-leading 276 strikeouts. Those numbers not only earned him the Rookie of the Year Award at season's end, but helped him finish second in the Cy Young Award voting. During the early-to-mid-1980s Gooden was one of the top pitchers in the game, winning the 1984 Cy Young Award and helping the Mets win their second World Championship in franchise history in 1986. He retired after the 2000 season with 194 career wins and a 3.51 ERA.
