Displayed is a rare personal bank check signed by Hall of Fame center fielder Willie Mays. The "Say Hey Kid" broke into the Major Leagues with the 1951 New York Giants, and he played through the 1973 season, except for 1953, when he was in military service. Mays played all of his career with the New York/San Francisco Giants, except for part of the 1972 season and the entire '73 season when he was with the New York Mets. Mays was the 1951 NL Rookie of the Year, a 2-time NL MVP, a batting champ, a 4-time NL stolen base leader, and a 12-time Gold Glove winner. He hit 660 lifetime home runs with a career .301 batting average. He was a key player on the New York Giants 1954 World Champions. Willie was an amazing 5-tool player, and some observers still regard him as the best baseball player ever. The check measures 3x8.25", and it is written on the Wells Fargo Bank. "Willie Mays" is machine printed on the check, along with his street address in Atherton, California. The check is made out to "Marianne Como" in the amount of Four Hundred Twenty-Nine dollars, for "car." Mays has signed the check in neatly written blue ink, and the check has been cashed. The check has a light crease in the center but otherwise has an appearance as EX. The check has also been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTO GRADE MINT 9.
