Unusual collection of twelve salesman's sample rings, each designed to commemorate the 1990 NCAA Division I Football championship. All the silver-colored rings are identical in design except for the number engraved on the top, which denotes the size of the respective ring. The sizes range from 15 to 20, which includes half sizes (15, 15.5, 16, 16.5, etc.) The top features a football outline, with floral embellishments on the interior, and is lettered "National Champions." One shank reads "Tight End," below which is a depiction of a football helmet and a football. The opposite shank bears the name "D. Hagan" and a depiction of a trophy, the top of which reads "Big 8 Champions." The lettering in the center of the trophy, which is extremely small, reads "56th Annual Orange Bowl Classic Miami Florida Champion." Although no date is listed, 1990 was the 56th edition of the Orange Bowl. The game matched the Big Eight Conference champion Colorado Buffalos against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Colorado was ranked as the number one team in the country entering the game, but they were soundly defeated 21-6 by Notre Dame. The loss denied them the National Championship, which was won by Miami. Since "Big 8 Champions" is included in the lettering on each of these rings, it is possible that they were created as prototypes for the Colorado team in anticipation of their victory in the game. No manufacturer's name or logo appears on any of the rings, but all are engraved "ArtCarving" on the interior band. The size 15 ring weighs 31 grams, while the size 20.5 ring weighs 32 grams. Excellent to Mint condition overall. Housed in their original carrying case.
