"The last miracle I did was the 1969 Mets. Before that, I think you have to go back to the Red Sea," said God (as played by George Burns) in the film Oh, God. Yes, the '69 New York Mets were truly a miracle, the first expansion team to ever win a World Series. Displayed is a a ticket stub to the 1969 World Series Game 5, when the Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles and forever earned the nickname of the "Miracle Mets." After a woeful beginning as a franchise, the Mets seemingly became World Champions overnight. With great pitching, tight defense, and timely hitting, Hall of Famer Gil Hodges skippered the Mets to a 100-62 regular season record, a 3-0 sweep of the Atlanta Braves in the NL Championship Series, and a 4-1 victory in games over the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. Hall of Fame righthander Tom Seaver led the Mets' pitchers with a 25-7 record and a 2.21 ERA, and left fielder Cleon Jones batted .340 on the season. In the deciding Game 5 of the '69 World Series, the Mets' Jerry Koosman threw a complete game, beating the Orioles 5-3. Played before 57,397 at Shea Stadium, the key hit for the Mets was a two-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning by World Series MVP Donn Clendenon, the Mets' first baseman. The offered ticket stub, measuring 2.25x5.1", is for a $10.00 Upper Reserved seat. The colorful stub has an image of the Mets' mascot, Mr. Met, winding up to throw a pitch. The stub has been encapsulated and PSA graded VG 3. The presented ticket stub makes a fine remembrance for one of the most amazing World Championship teams in the history of baseball.
