Presented is a cut signature of The Three Stooges actor Curly Howard, and a second cut signature, that of actress, singer, and dancer Dixie Dunbar, is on back. Curly Howard was the professional name of Jerome Lester Horwitz. Howard was born in Brooklyn, New York, and followed his older brothers, Moe and Shemp Howard, into show business. As a schoolboy, Curly was an excellent basketball player, and he often used his athletic ability to perform the many pratfalls he took as a member of The Three Stooges. Curly got his nickname when he was auditioning to replace his brother Shemp as one of the Stooges in Ted Healy's vaudeville act. Healy thought that Jerome (Curly) looked too debonair, with his long, wavy hair, for a low comedian. Jerome left the audition, quickly shaved his head, and re-entered the audition room and improvised a comic scene for Healy, and "Curly" was hired. Later, Moe and Curly Howard and Larry Fine left the Healy act and branched off on their own as The Three Stooges. At their peak in the 1930s-40s, The Three Stooges made such comic films as: A Plumbing We Will Go, We Want Our Mummy, and An Ache Over Stake. Illness forced Curly to end his acting career in 1936. Dixie Dunbar was Ray Bolger's dancing partner in Life Begins at 8:40, staged in Boston, and she also performed in the same show, and others, on Broadway. In films, she performed for Twentieth Century Fox in a number of movies, including two Jones Family films. The Curly cut signature is on a piece of lined notebook paper measuring approx. 1x2.25". This piece of paper has "Curly," no last name, written in neatly scripted blue fountain ink. The Dixie Dunbar signature is a big and bold autograph on an irregularly shaped piece of lined notebook paper measuring approx. 1.5x3.2". Dunbar signed in blue fountain ink. The Curly and Dixie Dunbar signatures have been separately pasted onto opposite sides of a piece of lined notebook paper measuring 4x6". This piece of notebook paper has one small tear, approx. 0.5" long, near the side and away from the signatures. The 4x6" lined paper and the smaller attached cut pieces, containing the autographs, all exhibit some toning because of the passage of years, but the autographs themselves remain very clear. The Curly Howard and Dixie Dunbar signed cuts come with a Beckett Letter of Authenticity (AC17051) as well as a PSA/DNA LOA (cert. #: AN06056).
