Displayed is a rare dual-signed Honus Wagner and Connie Mack government postcard that includes an affixed cut photo of these immortal Baseball Hall of Famers. Wagner played 21 Major League seasons (1897-1917), with his first four years with the Louisville Colonels and the rest of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mainly a shortstop, he also could easily move to other positions, playing significant time at both first and third base, and in the outfield. He is tied with Tony Gwynn for the most batting titles in the National League with eight. A superior defender at shortstop, he batted .329 lifetime, with 3,430 hits. He led the NL in slugging percentage in six seasons and was the NL stolen base leader in five years. The legendary Connie Mack was a serviceable Major League catcher who became an amazing manager and owner. Born as Cornelius McGillicuddy, Mack played ten seasons in the National League for the Washington Nationals (1886-89) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (1891-96), and a season for the Players League Buffalo Bisons (1890). His Major League career batting average was .265. As a manager, he managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1894-86, and then served a Major League record fifty years managing one team for the American League's Philadelphia Athletics (1901-50). He was one of the first managers to direct his players to move to different spots on the field depending on the batter and the situation, and he usually played for the big inning instead of playing "small ball." He managed the Athletics to five World Series titles. He also was either a part or full owner of those Athletics from 1901-54. The dual-signed government postcard measures 3.25x5.5". The affixed photo, attached by an unknown hand, measures approx. 2x3". Wagner and Mack have both signed the postcard in ink. The card has a postmark from Carnegie Pennsylvania, Wagner's hometown. The date of the postmark is not legible. The item was addressed to a James Zamisky (?), of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The postcard is in very good condition, and it has been encapsulated and has a PSA/DNA Auto Grade of MINT 9.
