Official American League (Johnson) baseball signed by Babe Ruth. This ball has been in the possession of our consignor's family for over 100 years and it comes with a wonderful story. In the early 1920s, our consignor's grandfather, who was approximately ten years old at the time, attended a Yankees game with his father (our consignor's great-grandfather). They sat in the right field bleachers and as fate would have it, they were lucky enough to catch a Babe Ruth home run ball. Naturally, the young boy was excited to have landed such a prize and his father suggested that they wait at the players entrance after the game to see if they could get Babe Ruth to sign it for them. Obviously, as one can see here, their patience was rewarded, and the ball has remained in the family since that time. Of course, there is no documentation accompanying the ball that can verify its home-run status, but the grandfather retold the story numerous times to all the family members, and there was never any reason to doubt him. Also, the ball dates to the 1918-1924 manufacturing period, which corresponds exactly to the time the grandfather obtained it. As young boys often do, the grandfather appears to have played with the ball a few times after he brought it home, but most of the signature remains legible. Ruth has scripted his name in black fountain pen across the sweet spot, with the signature grading 3/10 overall. The ball displays several moderate-to-heavy abrasions, but most of the manufacturer's stampings remain clearly legible. Full LOA from PSA.
