Ten significant Hall of Fame signatures with key rarity Billy Hamilton.
On September 8, 1930, over 22,000 fans turned out at Braves Field in Boston to witness an Old Timers Day game between former Boston players (both Red Sox and Braves) and a team of "All-Stars." Offered here is a rare signed baseball featuring the signatures of twenty-five participants in that memorable game, including ten Hall of Famers. The most significant signature on the ball is that of "Sliding" Billy Hamilton, who starred with the Boston Beaneaters of the National League from 1896 to 1901. Hamilton's signature is one of the most elusive of all Hall of Fame players because he died in 1940, but wasn't elected to the Hall until 1961. Hamilton's signature is especially rare on a baseball, with this just the second such example we have seen. The remaining signatures on the Official National League (Heydler) ball are those of Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Johnny Evers, Eddie Collins, Harry Hooper, Tris Speaker, Chief Bender, Ed Walsh, Frank Baker, Jack Barry, Duffy Lewis, George "Lefty" Tyler, Jack Coombs, George "Candy" LaChance, Hobe Ferris, George "Dode" Paskert, Joe Wood, Larry Gardner, Stuffy McInnis, Bill Dinneen, Fred Parent, Fred Tenney, Buck Freeman, and one other (illegible). The signatures range in grade from 3/10 to 7/10, averaging 6/10. The ball displays light-to-moderate toning and is in Excellent condition. Full LOA from PSA.
