Rare Detroit Tigers ticket stub (1.5x3") issued for a game against the Oakland Athletics on September 14, 1968, in which Denny McLain recorded his 30th win of the season. Graded EX 5 by PSA. This is the ONLY example of this ticket stub graded at this level, with NONE graded higher. In fact, this is one of only three examples listed in the PSA Population Report, making it one of the rarest of all modern milestone-game ticket stubs. McLain was dominant in the game, allowing just six hits and one walk, while striking out ten. Despite that performance, the Tigers were trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the ninth. Al Kaline led off the inning with a single. After Dick McAuliffe fouled out, Mickey Stanley singled and Jim Northup reached on an error, which scored Kaline and sent Stanley to third. Willie Horton then ended the game with a single that drove in Stanley. The victory made McLain the first 30-game winner since Dizzy Dean in 1934, and the first American League pitcher to reach that mark since Lefty Grove in 1931. To date, no pitcher has equaled the 30-win mark and, given the nature of the game, McLain may very well be the last 30-game winner in baseball history.
