Vintage scrapbook page featuring the signatures of Lou Gehrig, five other members of the 1933 New York Yankees, and Don Hurst (7 signatures total). This page was removed from a scrapbook compiled by our consignor's great aunt in the early 1930s that featured the signatures of numerous baseball stars from the era (the scrapbook is featured as a separate lot in this auction). For several players represented here, a cut newspaper photo or cut baseball card of the respective player has been affixed to the page. Gehrig's blue fountain-pen signature appears upon a cut newspaper photo and grades (5/10, slight bleeding). The remaining Yankees signatures on the front side of the page are those of Herb Pennock, Frankie Crosetti, Joe Sewell (signature affected by edge tears along the top border), Lynn Lary (signature affected by edge tears along the top border), and Charles Devens. Although no date is listed, based upon other signatures in the album, it appears that it was compiled in 1933. The reverse features the signature of Don Hurst (Philadelphia Phillies). (Please note: according to PSA, the signatures of Chuck Klein, Joe McCarthy, and Bill Dickey are not authentic and were scripted in an unknown hand, with the Klein and Dickey signatures also having been enhanced.) The signatures of Sewell and Lary are scripted in pencil, the remainder are scripted in blue or black fountain pen. Signatures average 5/10 overall. The sheet (6.75x11") displays toning, trimmed borders, and numerous small edge tears. Good condition overall. Full LOA from PSA.
