Vintage scrapbook page featuring the signatures of Babe Ruth and nine other members of the 1933 New York Yankees, as well as a few additional Major League players and college football players (31 signatures total). This page was removed from a scrapbook compiled by our consignor's great aunt in the early 1930s that featured the signatures of numerous baseball stars from the era (the scrapbook is featured as a separate lot in this auction). For several players represented here, a cut newspaper photo of the respective player has been affixed to the page. Ruth is one of those players and he has boldly signed directly on his photo, with the blue fountain-pen signature grading 8/10. The remaining Yankees signatures on the front side of the page are those of Tony Lazzeri (a tear along the top border affects most of Lazzeri's last name), Lefty Gomez, Earle Combs, Red Ruffing, Dixie Walker, Wilcy Moore, Dan MacFayden, Johnny Allen (twice), and Walter Brown. Although no date is listed, the combination of Yankees players on this page pinpoints the year to 1933.
Included among the twenty signatures on the opposite side are those of Wes Fesler (Ohio State football team), Del Baker (Detroit Tigers manager), Harry Davis (Detroit Tigers), Jim Harris (Notre Dame football team), and "Chief" Hogsett (Detroit Tigers). (Please note: according to PSA, the signatures of Hank Greenberg, Charlie Gehringer Jerry Walker, Marv Owen, and Bill Rogell, are not authentic and were scripted in an unknown hand.) The signatures of Lazzeri and MacFayden are scripted in pencil, the remainder are scripted in blue or black fountain pen. Signatures average 8/10 overall. The sheet (7.5x11") displays toning and numerous small edge tears. Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from PSA.
