Vintage photograph capturing Jackie Robinson wearing a Brooklyn Dodgers uniform for the first time. Robinson is pictured here saying goodbye to his former Montreal Royals manager Clay Hopper as the two shake hands in the Royals' locker room at Ebbets Field on April 10, 1947. The Montreal Royals were in town that day to play the Dodgers in an exhibition game prior to the start of the season. In the sixth inning of the game, the Dodgers announced to the press that they had purchased Robinson's contract from Montreal, making Robinson the first African American player in the Major Leagues since Moses Fleetwood Walker in 1884. After the game, the Dodgers issued Robinson a Brooklyn Dodgers jersey and cap, which he wore when meeting the press. This is one of the publicity shots taken at that time and represents one of the earliest photos of Robinson as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. A United Press International credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with a 1947 Acme News paper caption. As noted by PSA in its accompanying LOA, even though the paper news caption is original from 1947, it was applied to this photo at a later date. The photo (10x8") displays several light creases in the border areas and is Very Good to Excellent condition. Encapsulated by PSA as Type II Authentic.
