Scarce photographic composite featuring an image of President William Taft surrounded by portrait photos of twenty-three members of the 1910 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics. Taft is pictured seated in the stands at a ball game with members of his staff. The lettering along the base identifies each member of Taft's entourage and notes their "Tremendous enthusiasm when Eddie Collins knocks a slashing three bagger to the right field fence winning the game." Each Athletics player is identified in print at the base of his respective portrait, including manager Connie Mack, Chief Bender, Eddie Plank, Eddie Collins, Frank Baker, Jack Barry, Stuffy McInnis, Harry Davis, Jack Lapp, Rube Oldring, Jack Coombs, and Topsy Hartsell. The lettering along the top of the mount reads "The Athletic Base Ball Team - Winners of the American League Pennant of 1910." Given that text, it seems reasonable to assume that this piece was produced prior to the 1910 World Series in which the A's defeated the Chicago Cubs in five games. This is one of only a few examples of this scarce composite display we have ever seen and the first we have offered. The large composite photo (14.25x11") displays a tiny edge tear along the right border and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. The mount (16.25x13.25"; visible dimensions) displays a small crease along the right border (in the same area as the aforementioned tear) and is otherwise in apparent Near Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 23.75x19.75". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
