Original Type I photograph of Hall of Fame outfielder Earl Averill used in the production of Averill's 1939-1946 Salutations Exhibit card. This is the proof for the card, which includes the salutation, "Very Best Wishes Earl Averill," in hand applied white lettering at the base. An editorial notation on the reverse reads "Take out Cleveland." That's exactly what the production team did, removing the team's name on the front of the uniform to avoid any legal issues with the Cleveland Indians ball club. Original card artwork, especially for players of Averill's stature, has always been highly coveted by collectors and this is one of the first such pieces for a 1939-1946 Exhibit we have ever seen, let alone handled. The photo (7x9") displays heavy editorial shading on the front, as well as several light creases. Very Good condition. Encapsulated by PSA as Type I Authentic.
