Original Type I photograph capturing "Smoky Joe" Wood as a member of the Boston Red Sox in 1912. Wood is pictured warming up on the sideline with another unidentified Red Sox player pictured in the background. Wood's handwritten name appears twice on the reverse, along with a date stamp reading "Aug 30 1912." Wood enjoyed one of the greatest seasons in mound history in 1912, leading the league with 34 wins, 35 complete games, and 10 shutouts. Those accomplishments, along with his 1.91 ERA and 258 strikeouts helped lead the Boston Red Sox to their first of four World Championships during the decade.
