Presented is a 1950s Stan Musial game worn, heavy wool jacket. Of course, Musial didn't wear the jacket while at bat or in the field, but it was used during games to keep him warm while in the dugout, especially during chilly games early or late in the season. Musial was called "Stan the Man," and for good reason. The Hall of Fame outfielder and first baseman played his entire Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals, from 1941-63, with 1945 spent in World War II military service. Musial had an incredible lifetime batting average of .331, and he was a 3-time World Series winner and a 3-time NL MVP. The 24-time All-Star was a 7-time NL batting title winner. He had a unique batting stance, coiled and "peeking" over his right arm. The wool jacket has red, white, and blue piping around the collar and a Cardinal perched on a baseball bat on the left chest. The piping on the bottom of each sleeve shows heavy wear with a number of pronounced tears, as well as ripped and missing threads. In addition, the above-mentioned areas show fading of colors from the original red, white, and blue. There are seven snap buttons, showing excellent wear, down the front center. The red, white, and blue collar shows fading of the original colors, as well as tears and ripped or missing threads. The waist pocket has red piping that has faded to orange. There is "Butwin" manufacturer's tagging inside the jacket with a faded (handwritten in black marker) #6. The jacket makes an outstanding offering as it is really difficult to find a Musial worn heavy, wool jacket.
