Presented is a jersey most likely worn in the 1950 film The Jackie Robinson Story. Hall of Famer Robinson played with the Montreal Royals, a top Brooklyn Dodgers farm team in 1946, and before the start of the regular season, he trained with the Dodgers organization. Then in 1947, Hall of Famer Robinson broke the Major League "Color Line" when he debuted with the Dodgers. He hit .297 in his rookie season, was the National League's Rookie of the Year, and led the NL in stolen bases with 29. Three years after his Major League debut, 20th Century Fox films produced The Jackie Robinson Story. In the film, Robinson plays himself, Ruby Dee plays Rae - his wife - and Minor Watson plays Branch Rickey, the Dodgers owner, and chief executive. On the jersey, the lower rear inside tail has 20th Century Fox tagging that reads "Job A584 Date 12-48 Size 48 3-85-2-5313". The gray jersey has "Dodgers" in blue script across the chest. On the rear are block numerals reading "25." In 1947, Brooklyn Dodgers jersey #25 was worn by pitcher Hugh Casey, a southerner who reportedly signed a petition to keep Robinson from playing on the Dodgers, a rebellion squashed by Branch Rickey and Dodgers manager Leo Durocher. The nice quality jersey is in excellent condition, and it makes a cross-over memento with connections to baseball, American civil rights and the film industry.
