Original Type I photograph capturing the gravesite of Henry Chadwick, known as "The Father of Baseball." Chadwick was a sportswriter who helped popularize baseball during its early days and was influential in helping formulate the rules of the game as it evolved during the nineteenth century. He is also credited with inventing the box score. Chadwick died in 1908 and this elaborate grave marker, complete with a large baseball at the top, was unveiled in Greenwood Cemetery (Brooklyn, New York) in 1909. A Brown Brothers credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with handwritten editorial notations. The photo (7x6") has been slightly trimmed to its current dimensions and displays a few tiny edge tears. Very Good condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archives. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
