In the Stanley Cup Finals for the 1956-57 NHL season, the defending Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens took a 3-0 lead in games in the best of seven series. Presented is a game used puck from Game 4 from that series, as the challenging Boston Bruins hosted the game at the Boston Garden in an effort to stay alive. Fleming MacNell scored twice for the Bruins, one in the first period, assisted by Jerry Toppazzini and Larry Regan, and again late in the third period, assisted by Don McKenney and Leo Labine and behind the stellar goalkeeping of Don Simmins, Boston kept alive with a 2-0 win. Montreal wrapped up the Stanley Cup two days later with a 5-1 victory at the Montreal Forum. Both teams in these Stanley Cup Finals featured hall of Famers: Canadiens - Jean Beliveau, Bernie Geoffrion, Doug Harvey, Tom Johnson, Dickie Moore, Bert Olmstead, Jacques Plante, Henri Richard, Maurice Richard, and coach Toe Blake (as a player). Bruins - Leo Boivin, Fern Flaman, Allan Stanley, Terry Sawchuk, and coach Milt Schmidt (as a player). On each side of the black game used puck is an orange octagon on which is stamped "Official National Hockey League Art Ross Tyer." On one side of the puck a small, printed tag has been attached with clear tape, and the tag reads: "NHL PLAYOFFS/APRIL 14, 1957/Bruins 2/Canadiens 0." The puck shows good use, with a pronounced skate slash and several nicks along the edges. Game used pucks from this era are scarce, so this puck, from one of the old-time six team NHL Stanley Cup Finals and with the participation of so many Hall of Famers, is a great vintage memento.
