Tony Zale was the 2-time Middleweight World Champion. He real name was Anthony Zaleski, and he was born in Gary, Indiana. The Ring magazine named Zale as one of the greatest 100 punchers of all time. Zale is best remembered for a series of three fights against Rocky Graziano with 15 months. On Sept. 27, 1946, he knocked out Graziano to retain his World Middleweight title. Then on July 16, 1947, Graziano turned the tables and took the World Middleweight crown. Then in the third fight, held on June 10, 1948, in New Jersey, Zale knocked out Graziano in the Third Round to win back his title. Larry Holmes held the WBA Heavyweight title from 1978-83, The Ring magazine and lineal titles from 1980-85, and the IBF Heavyweight title from 1983-85. He defeated Muhammad Ali and fought his last fight in 2002 when he was 52 years old. He had a lifetime record of 69-6, with all of his losses coming in title fights. This offering hung in Larry Holmes gym in Easton, PA. The metal on wood display measures 12x19" for the metal area and 13.25x19.5" with the wood backing included. Tony Zale's image is on the metal, and on the bottom of the metal is printed "Tony Zale." In black marker, Zale has written, "To a great champion, Larry Holmes/Good Luck, Tony Zale." The piece is in overall Excellent condition, and the item has special significance since Zale was written from one world champion to another.
