Presented is a signed team photograph of the 1946 Detroit Tigers. On the bottom of the photo is written, in an unknown hand, "Detroit Tigers 1946." The team had a fine record that season, going 92-62-1, but they finished in second place. The greatest star on the team was Hall of Fame first baseman Hank Greenberg, who is on the far left in the third row. In 1946, Greenburg led the American league in both homers (44) and RBIs (127). In 1938, Greenburg was close to matching or beating Babe Ruth's season record of 60 home runs, but Greenburg wound up with 58. Another Hall of Famer on this team was third baseman George Kell (front row - second from right). This Tiger team was managed by Steve O'Neill (front row - fourth from right), and it included a number of future Major League managers: Birdie Tebbetts, (third from the right in the back row), asserting some individuality as the only one in the photo with his arms crossed; Paul Richards (third from the left in the front row); Fred Hutchinson (second row on the far right). Another player of note in the photo is Bob Swift (front row - far right). Five years later, when Eddie Gaedel, a person standing only 3'7", was sent to bat for the St Louis Browns in 1951 in a real game, the Detroit Tigers' pitcher, Bob Cain, was laughing, and in a famous photo, Swift, a catcher, was on his knees so he could present a target behind the height challenged Gaedel, who walked. The photo measures approx. 9.5x13", matted and framed at 15.75x19.5". The photo has creasing in a number of areas on the left and in the top right corner. There is some tiny spotting in various areas. The offering presents the signed photos of some very notable baseball names.
