What could be better than having Gordie Howe, "Mr. Hockey," featured in an advertisement for hockey sticks, in this case Northland hockey sticks. After all, right winger Howe certainly knew how to use hockey sticks. The Hall of Famer played 32 years of Big-League hockey - 26 years in the NHL (25 of those seasons with the Detroit Red Wings) and 6 years in the World Hockey Association (WHA). He used sticks well enough to score 801 goals, and add 1,042 assists for 1850 points, each category an all-time NHL high when he retired from the NHL. Then Howe added six more seasons in the WHA, scoring an additional 174 goals, with 334 assists, for 508 points as he played on teams with his sons, with Gordie playing his final season at age 51. Howe was also a tough cookie on the ice, and he could effectively subtlety employ the stick against opponents when they became too chippy against him. Howe was generally a right-handed player, but he would often use the stick as a left-handed player, as he employed his stick ambidextrously. The advertisement is very rare. The 10x13" display was used in sporting goods stores. It shows a photo of Howe as a Red Wing, with his stick ready. The advertisement also has a quote from Howe that reads, "I could tell a Northland stick blindfolded." The advertisement has an easel-like device on back to prop the advertisement up for display. The piece is also signed by Howe in black marker. It has a few pinholes at the corners and some creasing also along with what appears to be some transparent glue marks on the front, yet it still looks wonderful.
