Presented is a Buffalo Bills mesh jersey worn by O.J. Simpson in April 1994 when Simpson was attending a Draft Day party for Buffalo Bills season ticket holders and invited guests in Orchard Park, New York. Simpson's serious legal difficulties involving the deaths of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, are well known, but at the time of the Draft Day party in 1994, those harrowing events were in the near future. Simpson's notoriety can sometimes make persons almost forget that before those tragic happenings, Simpson was an extremely popular player and later an entertainment personality. He is in the Hall of Fame of both college and professional football, and his initial public acclaim arose from his ability as a running back. Simpson played 11 NFL seasons and achieved his most success with the Buffalo Bills, for whom he played from 1969-1977. He led the NFL in rushing four times and was the league MVP in 1973, when he was the first NFL running back to rush for over 2,000 yards in a 14-game season. The jersey has Simpson's number "32" in white numerals with red trim. The left chest has a NFL 75th Anniversary patch. The front left outer tail has a Buffalo Bills "Champion" manufacturing tag. Next to the manufacturer's tag is another "Champion" tag that shows the jersey size "44" and gives washing instructions. Each sleeve has the Champion logo and the number "32." The back shows "SIMPSON" in white block letters and below that "32" in white numerals with red trim. The jersey comes with a signed Letter of Authenticity from the consignor. This LOA explains that the jersey was left behind on a table when Simpson left the Draft Day party, and an employee picked up the jersey and later gave it to the consignor. The jersey is in excellent condition. It dates from a time when O.J. Simpson was still a highly popular personality.
