Sterling silver ice bucket, with removable lid, awarded to the owners of Hall of Fame racehorse Sword Dancer for his victory in the 1960 Woodward Stakes held at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York. The two-handled ice bucket bears the following engraving on the front: "New York Racing Association/The Woodward/Aqueduct/1960/Won by/Brookmead Stables/Sword Dancer/Trainer J. Elliot Burch." Sword Dancer was one of the greatest racehorses of his era and in 1959 was named Horse of the Year by all three of the major awarding bodies. His 1960 victory in the Woodward Stakes was his second consecutive win in the race and he did it in a track record time of 2:01.2. Sword Dancer was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1977, as was his trainer, Elliot Burch, in 1980. The ice bowl is marked "Sterling" on both the underside of the lid and the underside of the bowl. The bowl displays a few minor dings and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Base diameter: 5.25 inches. Height (with lid): 10 inches. Weight (with lid, and with insulation insert): 83.125 ounces.
